CROSS PLAINS (WKOW) -- Dozens gathered in Cross Plains on Saturday for an event called Poker for Paws. No, the event is nothing like that famous painting.
"The dogs aren't playing today," laughs organizer Nicole Meadowcroft, "but we are going all in for Occupaws."
Instead, man's best friend played spectator as people played their best hands at Shelton's Bar and Restaurant.
The big winner of this poker tournament was Occupaws, a group that helps find guide dogs. A new program specifically matches companion dogs for children.
"These dogs go into these families homes and they help these children gain some sense of independence, self esteem and pride and open doors to make new friends, and it changes these kids' lives," said Meadowcroft.
Some of the poker players were visually impaired. They used playing cards in Braille.
