MILTON (WKOW) -- Parents at Harmony Elementary School in Milton say a new sidewalk will make it tougher for their kids to get to school.
The district is cancelling bus service to around 100 students.
Milton Schools Superintendent Bernard Nikolay tells 27 news it's district policy to not offer bus service to students living within two miles of school if there is a sidewalk and unless there are safety issues.
Nikolay says the new sidewalk in front of Harmony Elementary eliminated that issue and that's why the district cut bus service to those students. He adds it's common practice across the district, and they want to be consistent for all the families.
But many parents aren't convinced, and say two miles is a long way for such young students to walk.
Kim Jazdzewski is a Harmony parent, and she says her kids won't be walking by themselves. "It's just too busy of a road for young children to be walking on their own."
The district says safety is its top priority and it hasn't had any problems with the policy in the past.
Of course, parents say they're also worried about the weather their kids will have to walk through.
Harmony Elementary School just paved a new driveway for parents to drop off and pick up their kids, and it put up a fence between it and the playground.
