MADISON (WKOW) -- A UW group is looking to build ties between the community and the university to advocate for literacy.
On Thursday night, the UW literacy initiative hosted Mayor Dave Cieslewicz at its Spring Kickoff meeting.
Two of the volunteers got certificates from the Mayor for their hard work.
Mayor Dave says its a way to meet the needs of the increase numbers of low income families in Madison, and help them get a better state on their education.
UW Literacy Initiative is a campus organization that trains students interested in becoming tutors in basic literacy and English as a second language.
