Ski team braving cold waters for Children's Hospital

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW)-- The Mad City Water Ski Team will brave the December waters of Lake Monona to benefit the American Family Children's Hospital.

The ski team will hold a water ski show Saturday off John Nolen Drive near the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.  Events begin at noon with the water show starting at 1 p.m.

Mark Sanderfoot, a decision support manager for UW Health and long-time participant on the Mad City Water Ski Team, will be involved in the show entitled "Project Snowflake."

"We think many of the conditions the boat drivers and skiers will face will be the same in the winter as they are in the summer," says Sanderfoot.  "The temperature will be the biggest factor and will play a part in how many people will be in each act and how many acts the individual skiers will be able to ski in."

Sanderfoot says performers will wear dry suits and ski gloves to protect themselves from the cold.

Spectators will also have the chance to take a water ski run for $35.  Other activities include a silent auction on prizes donated from local merchants and T-shirt sales.
