AIDS Memorial Quilt on display in Madison this Wednesday, Thursday

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A tapestry detailing the struggles of those who lived and died with HIV and AIDS will be on display later this week for the public to view.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt will be placed in the lobby of the Overture Center on State Street from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Twenty-one panels, each telling the story of eight people who lost their lives to the disease, will be available.  The complete quilt contains 45,500 panels, acknowledging more than 91,000 people.

The HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Care Program at UW Hospital and Clinics created the quilt in 1987.  Among those featured in the portion to hang in Overture Center include at least thirteen people from Wisconsin, several of which received treatment through UW Hospital.

UW has also put together a series of videos which feature patients that are living successfully with the virus.
