MADISON (WKOW) -- More people hit the stores over Thanksgiving weekend, but they spent less than last year.
According to the National Retail Federation, 195 million people shopped during the 4-day weekend from Thanksgiving day through Sunday. That's up from 172 million in 2008.
This year, shoppers spent an average of $343 dollars each over the weekend, that's down from $373 last year.
Experts say Black Friday is not always indicative of how the holiday shopping season will be, but if revenues are down for the season, it will be an unprecedented 2nd year drop.
