The holiday shopping season is big for TV sales -- almost 40 percent of TVs are sold at the end of the year and retailers have conditioned us to expect big price drops. But sale prices this year might not be as low, in part because demand overseas is creating less inventory here in the U.S.

Finding a good deal on a TV this year is more important than ever and ABC News has some inside tips on finding the lowest prices on big ticket tech items like TVs.

First, use an online comparison site like pricegrabber.com -- it lists prices from retailers all across the web to show you the best deals. You can also set up an email alert so you'll get a message when the price on your TV drops.

The next question to ask yourself: buy now or wait? Pricespider.com tracks any item over a six month period. In the last six months, for example, the price on one TV dipped below $700 dollars a few times. And that means that as the holidays approach, retailers will probably drop it down again.

Finally, even after you buy, track the price. Many stores, like Best Buy, have a price guarantee.  If you buy something and within the return period the price drops, they will give you the difference.

Not all stores have this policy, and of course some restrictions apply.

But who has time to check prices every day after you buy? That's where priceprotectr.com comes in. You tell the site where you bought your TV, when you bought it, and how much you paid. Priceprotectr tracks the price, and emails you with any changes.

If it drops, you go to the store and get a refund. And remember, you can use these websites to find a deal on any electronics item, not just TVs.
