MADISON (WKOW) -- There's been plenty of talk about education this week in Wisconsin. At the UW-Madison campus on Saturday, the focus was on getting girls interested in math and science.
The Microbial Sciences Building hosted an annual event called Science in Action on Saturday. About 350 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade girls worked with small-scale engineering projects.
They also have a chance to learn about careers that involve in math and science. The event began about 50 years ago.
"I looked around, and we didn't really have that day very many female mentors either in industry, government, or particularly on the University tenure-track faculty," said Anna Maria Williams, an emeritus professor in biological sciences at UW-Parkside.
