DULUTH, Minnesota (WKOW) -- Lake County, Minnesota Sheriff's deputies confirmed that a body found Thursday afternoon is that of a missing kayaker from the Milwaukee area.

A medical examiner identified the body, which was found on the north shore of Lake Superior, as Douglas R. Winter, 48, a former school teacher.  An official cause of death has yet to be determined.

The body was found just north of Two Harbors in the Flood Bay area, roughly where searchers expected to find it given the wave patterns over the past few weeks.

Winter last made contact with someone around 8:45 p.m. on October 19.  At the time, he called a friend to alert him that the waves about two to three miles off shore were getting bigger.

The kayak washed ashore October 20 in the Beaver Bay area.
