Stinky "Corpse Flower" on display at Olbrich Gardens

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Olbrich Gardens in Madison is showing off one stinky attraction.

It's a Titan Arum, better known as a "Corpse Flower."

Its called that because its scent has been compared to the smell of a rotting animal to attract beetles and flies to pollinate it.

"Usually there isn't a flower stinkier than this flower or it's something that is really stinky and I think this is the most stinkiest flower I have ever smelled," said visitor Madeline Wellman who is as old as the Corpse Flower.

This is the first time it has bloomed in 7 years and Olbrich Garden officials say it's a coincidence it happened on the week of Halloween. The stinky bloom will last anywhere from one to five days.
