MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW wants the public's help to put a new spin on a an old familiar favorite.
The Badger fight song "On Wisconsin" is celebrating it's 100 year anniversary, and to honor the occasion, the University is holding a contest for different versions of the tune.
Winners will be picked from three different categories which are: Largest group, performance farthest from Madison and most creative.
Composer William T. Purdy originally wrote the song for a contest held by the University of Minnesota. His roommate, a Wisconsin alum, convinced him to ditch that plan and the rest is history. To find out how to enter the contest visit click here.
"The main thing they are trying to do is make it relevant and just celebratory of the times because like I said its been around 100 years and celebrating it by giving it new life no matter which direction it goes," says UW Band Director Mike Leckrone.
