MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin's Department of Corrections could pay for a series of expensive facial reconstruction surgeries for the man who killed his girlfriend with a shotgun and then shot himself. Daryl Strenke, 45, survived the blast but severely disfigured his face. Now Strenke, who pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide for the shooting in 2002, is serving 30 years in prison. His self-inflicted wound makes it impossible for him to eat or speak normally, said his mother. Strenke is scheduled to begin reconstructive surgeries later this month. A Department of Corrections would not confirm it, but said the state would fund the surgeries only if they were considered medically necessary.
