WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Federal health officials are making a mass push to get Americans vaccinated against the H1N1 influenza virus.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius spoke on a number of morning talk shows Wednesday about the swine flu vaccine, calling it "safe and secure."
Sebelius says production is ahead of schedule and a full supply should be available by the end of the month, adding "We will push the vaccine out as quickly as we get it."
Around 90,000 sites across the U.S. are scheduled to receive the vaccine.
Sebelius is putting extra emphasis on children, urging parents to get their young ones vaccinated and calling the swine flu "a younger person's flu."
The government has identified five target populations that make up roughly half of the U.S. population: pregnant women, health care workers, children with underlying health conditions ages 6 months to 24 years and older Americans with underlying health conditions.
Some 600 people have already died from the H1N1 virus and Sebelius warns "kids have no immunity to the flu."
