More shots fired on Madison's southwest side

MADISON (WKOW) -- Shots rang out in broad daylight on Madison's southwest side as someone was shooting at a moving car.

Madison Police Sgt. Will Quast said it happened around 3:48 p.m. near the intersection of Hammersley Road and Theresa Terrace.

Quast said one witness reported hearing as many as ten gunshots.  Another witness reported seeing a younger-looking black male wearing a red shirt and blue jeans shooting at a car driving on Hammersley.

Police searched for the suspect, who ran between homes in the area, but were unable to catch him.  Officers also eventually found the target vehicle, which contained a bullet hole.  A number of other shell casings were located on the street at the location of the shooting.

Sgt. Quast said there are no reports of any injuries, and no other property damage.  

This is the same part of town where concerns over safety have again been heightened, following a rash of shootings this spring that prompted a news conference by MPD, and an unrelated murder of Memorial High School student Karamee Collins, Jr. not far away near Balsam Road and Leland Drive.

Photojournalist Drew Smith spotted about five shell casings being marked off by police officers.

No word on if anyone was injured, nor on any suspect information.
