MADISON (WKOW) -- Ralliers took to the streets: asking legislators to do away with school revenue caps.
It's called Walk on the Child's Side. Parents, teachers, students and education organizations marched from Library Mall on the UW Campus to the Capitol, hoping to make legislators aware of their quest: to stop state revenue caps. The caps limit the amount a state can raise property taxes.
Ralliers say limiting funds hurts the classroom: and students.
Marjorie Passman, with the Madison School Board, says, "It's been impossible for the last few years. we had to give up on programs, reduced what we need to do for our children, we've reduced our serices, we've eliminated programs: we are not doing a good job for our children."
So far, legislators tell me there's been only one alternative plan introduced at the Capitol. The School Finance Network is a group that has worked tirelessly on the issue of revenue caps. However, they say there are no proposals in the legislature this session that discuss school funding.
